Group coaching for managers: how does it work?

Group coaching brings together a small group of managers who grow together by working on their real situations, guided by a coach. It isn't training and it isn't a team meeting: it's a space to step back from your own practice, where you learn as much from your peers as from the coach.

How does a session work?

A session brings together a small group of managers, in person or by video call, for about 90 minutes. A typical session:

  1. Check-in: where is everyone since the last session?

  2. A real situation: one participant brings a concrete case, such as an unmotivated team member, a conflict or a difficult decision.

  3. Group work: questions, shared experience, ideas. The coach guides the conversation without handing out THE answer.

  4. A commitment: everyone leaves with one action to try before the next session.

Sessions run as a cycle, at regular intervals. Regularity is what turns insights into new habits.

Group coaching, training or one-to-one coaching?

  • Training starts from a program. The trainer delivers structured content, often as a one-off.

  • Group coaching starts from the participants' situations. The coach facilitates the conversation over a cycle of group sessions. Its strength: the collective intelligence of the group.

  • One-to-one coaching starts from one person's challenges, face to face. Its strength: it is tailored and confidential.

The three work well together. Many companies pair a leadership training program with a cycle of group coaching, so that what people learn lasts.

Who is it for?

  • New managers, who are discovering the role and benefit from talking with peers.

  • Experienced managers who want to step back from their practice.

  • Leadership teams who want to strengthen how they make decisions together.

  • Managers from the same company, to build a shared management culture.

What do we work on?

The same themes come up often: finding your stance as a manager, giving feedback, handling conflict, leading a team through change, managing your energy and emotions, clarifying your vision. What makes the group powerful is that these themes always start from the group's real cases.

My role as a facilitator

As co-founder of Humanava, I facilitate group coaching sessions for managers. My job: create a space where everyone dares to speak honestly, ask the right questions and bring out what the group already knows. My years on stage help a lot here: reading a room, pacing a conversation, giving the floor to those who speak up less.
